Sunday morning we got up early for breakfast and then set out to explore the national park properly as we had a few hours before we were due to sail to the next island. The national park is home to some stunning salt lakes, so we opted to hire a canoe as our mode of transport.
We paddled out to an ancient Benadictine monastry and abbey on the small Isle of St Mary in the middle of one of the lakes, which was actually quite a long way. But it was worth the effort for the beautfiul scenery and on the way back we stopped at a little bay for a swim, we had the whole place to ourselves and it was just beautiful. We could have stayed there for ages but were conscious we needed to return the canoe and get back to the boat before we sailed.
Lunch was onboard the boat as we departed Mljet headed for the island of Korcula. The afternoon was spent sailing and stopping for swimming oppotunities - I really can't think of a more relaxing way to pass the time. The great thing about our boat was that it was big enough to find a quiet spot to read and relax, or there was the option of joining the others to play cards and chat while we were sailing. It was just so lovely to chill out, soak up the sun and the beautiful scenery as we passed by pretty bays and little islands.
We arrived on Korcula in the late afternoon and set out with a group from the boat to find the legendary tower cocktail bar which involves a rather steep climb to the top of a watch tower to enjoy the sunset. They had a pulley system to bring the cocktails up to the top of the tower and it's lucky the cocktails are so pricey you wouldn't want more than one or two, as there is very little in the way of barriers to stop anyone topping to the bottom.
After a drink we headed into the town to find some dinner, deciding to share a couple of giant seafood platters amongst a group of us, before heading back to the boat, while some of the more game people headed out to continue the party.
