Monday morning we made a trip back to the hospital to pick up my medical records after deciding the handwritten note from the doctor wasn't good enough to take back to the UK. It was a bit of an ordeal trying to explain what we needed, but with the help of a i-phone wielding man visiting his wife and newborn baby in hospital and the British embassy we eventually got what we wanted - photocopies of all my records. After bidding Vibo Valentia farewell we got back on the road south, headed for Sicily to catch our original flight back to the London as the insurance company weren't being too helpful with rebooking us on a new flight.
Wanting to take things easy, with the help of my dad, we had booked a hotel near Villa San Giovanni where the ferries to Sicily leave from. It was only a couple of hours drive away, and when we eventually found the hotel after a minor GPS hiccup we were made it to our room overlooking the sea towards Sicily. This hotel happened to have reliable internet access so after catching up with a few things and having a bit of a rest we headed out for a walk.
The little town we were in was really pretty and very authentically Italian. Standing on the beach it felt as if we could reach out and touch Sicily, it was that close. We sat and had a couple of beers at a beach side bar and reflected on the events over the past few days as we watched the sunset. There was a restaurant attached to the bar so feeling very lazy we simply wandered through for dinner, treating ourselves the most fabulous sea food three course dinner.
