Wednesday we continued our drive towards Palermo where our flight was due to fly from the next day. We had planned on spending a full week in Sicily, but obviously with what had happened neither of us were up to much sight seeing. But we did fall in love with the island and will definitely return some other time to see more of it. We didn't drive anywhere near the centre of Palermo, which we had heard is manic, and stayed at a hotel near the airport. This was another last-minute deal that ended really well, we were staying in a huge holiday complex complete with several swimming pools, tennis courts and Italian- style family entertainment. When we arrived we asked where we should go to get some lunch and were directed to the hotel restaurant, where without even being asked we were ushered to a table and a served a four course meal complete with antipasti, pasta, a meat course and then desert, washed down by a giant carafe of wine. It seemed that this place was a sort of all-inclusive holiday hotel, with holidaying Italians rolling in from a morning at the poolside or beach. Deciding it was easier to just go along with it we didn't ask any questions and just enjoyed! Feeling rather full after our rather confusing but delicious lunch we spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool, savouring the sunshine on our last afternoon in Italy. Later that evening we returned to the restaurant for yet another all-inclusive four-course feast - I swear I have never eaten so much in my life as I did while in Italy!
